Watercolors By Mindy

Growing up in the Brandywine Valley has inspired my love of nature for it's brilliant color and fascinating form. The nature of light and shadow, design and pattern intrigue me. My earlier works in pen and ink explored pattern and design and this carried over into my watercolors. More recently I've become interested in trying to capture the playful effects of sunlight on flowers. Flowers and sunlight compliment each other - so what better place to combine lush color and the illusion of sunlight. Often painting from the "bug's eye view", I strive to capture the effects of the direct light that creates reflected colors, shadows and the dark crevices only a bug could know. The warm sunlight, the cool leaves and the beautiful colors of flowers dance with each other to create a pattern of lighting effects that excites me. Since transparent watercolors are luminous by nature, I find watercolor to be the perfect medium to try to achieve my goal.
